Wow! Amazing shots! Thank you so much for sharing! How can I find out when the Bathtub Ring started? A group from Yale says they were the first acapella group in 1909, and I was hoping ours started earlier 🙂

The Bathtub Ring was founded in 1968 by Betty King, Ayn Sullivan, and Peggy Timmerman, all members of the class of 1970. (_The Vision Revisited: A History of Meredith College 1971-1998_ by Carolyn Robinson, p. 59.) Yale wins that one; however, Meredith did have one of the first student government associations in the South, beginning in 1905! Dr. Mary Lynch Johnson writes in detail about this in _A History of Meredith College_, 2nd ed., p. 136-139.

The College Archives has several hundred 2¾ x 4½” negatives of photos that Lucy Sanders (married Hood) made when she studied art with Miss Ida Poteat. They are truly wonderful, and like nothing else we have–a student with a camera was most unusual! You can see more of Lucy’s pictures at

Thank you for your comment, NNB.
